Darjeeling is one of the most popular hill stations. It holds captive a cadre of rookie and returnee visitors charmed by its mountain scenery and quaintly cosmopolitan air.
Winding up from the hot plains of Bengal roads and railway alike slither through carpets of neatly manicured tea shrubs rounding a final corner to great Darjeeling. The modest town drapes itself along an aerated 2,100 m (6,890 ft) ridge and down the north facing slope perimeters often lost in pre-monsoon fog of early summer.
A leisurely day of nostalgia begins with a ride on the Toy Train.
The Toy Train is Darjeelings mascot, a refreshing reminder that some things never change. Put on your walking shoes and join early strollers along Chowrasta. Visit a secluded Buddhist Monastry and the Tibetan Center of Handicrafts. Mingle yourself with the natural History Museum or wander through the open bazaar. Drive upto the Tiger Hill for sunrise and spend some time in the Lloyd Botanical Garden and the famous Himalayan Mountaineering Institute. Not forget the Tibetan lunch and Chinese dinner. A must visit are Bhutia Busty Monastery, Planters Club, Gleenary’s, Senchal Lake, Samten Choling, Himalayn Zoological Park, Batasia Loop, Dhirdham Temple etc
